Hull broke the deadlock on the quarter-hour when Sneyd kicked a penalty and he then added the extras when Jordan Abdull crossed for the hosts’ first try just three minutes later.

Trinity responded on 23 minutes, Jacob Miller sending Bill Tupou crashing over in the corner and James Batchelor kicked the extras to cut the gap to two.

The score was repeated on the half-hour, this time Max Jowitt putting Tupou over and Batchelor once again converting from the touchline to put the visitors 12-6 up.

It got better for Wakefield three minutes before the interval, Hakim Miloudi losing the ball in the in-goal area and Mason Caton-Brown pouncing to score another try improved by Batchelor.

The 10-point half-time lead was cut seven minutes into the second half when Albert Kelly touched-down and Sneyd added the goal.

The hosts hit the front five minutes later when Fetuli Talanoa touched-down and Sneyd kicked the extras but parity was restored on the hour courtesy of Batchelor’s penalty.

Talanoa bagged his second, converted from wide out by Sneyd, on 64 minutes as Hull FC took the initiative to lead 26-20.

Trinity weren’t finished and a loose pass was picked up by Caton-Brown and he raced clear from 40 metres out to touch-down eight minutes from time. Batchelor levelled the match with the extras.

Ryan Hampshire and Miller missed drop goals as Trinity went in search of the win but it was Hull who claimed the points when Sneyd sent over the decisive kick from the half-way line with less than two minutes remaining.
