The French side, who are now seventh in Betfred Super League, produced a high-quality performance against a Trinity outfit who were well below their best.

“I’m extremely disappointed,” Chester said afterwards.

“I don’t know what was worse, the attack or the defence – I thought we were terrible in both.”

Trinity went 6-0 ahead early on and scored two tries either side of half-time in a brief fightback from 22-6 behind, but never looked like winning the game.

“We need to individually and collectively put things right,” Chester added.

“We got off to a good start, but we couldn’t contain their big lads.

“Their middles seemed to run a lot harder than us and tackle a lot harder than us.

“I am frustrated and disappointed and we are a bit embarrassed as well.

“That performance shouldn’t have happened.

“Our one-on-one contacts were abysmal at times and we lacked any real energy.

“I thought the scoreline flattered us.”

Chester accepted his share of the blame.

“I’ve done a few things wrong during the week in terms of selection,” he conceded.

“Hopefully I can get it right for Friday.”

Trinity remain sixth in the table, one place ahead of Catalans on for and against with Huddersfield Giants a point behind.

Ninth-placed Leeds Rhinos, who Wakefield visit in four days’ time, are three points adrift.

“The only positive to come out [of Saturday] is we are still in sixth spot,” Chester admitted.

“It makes that game a really important one for us.”

Anthony England damaged a biceps late in the game, but Chester is hopeful the front-rower will be available for this week’s match.

“He has been getting jabbed up for the last three or four weeks,” revealed Chester.

“He has got a sternum problem and a biceps problem.

“He stuck his hand up to play, it doesn’t look great, but I am pretty sure he’ll put his hand up again for Friday night.”
