Following a scheme first launched by Hull Kingston Rovers, the Belle Vue outfit quickly followed suit to help raise some much-needed funds.

The initiative allows fans to donate any amount of money and in return they will receive a player to ‘adopt’ who has played for Wakefield.

That leaves over 1,000 players up for grabs, with the club announcing earlier this week that so far more than £2,000 has been raised.

The cut-off for donations is tomorrow (July 31), with chosen players to be sent out in August.

A club statement explained: “The process will be completely random, regardless of the amount you donate.

“You could adopt a club legend such as Neil Fox or David Topliss, or it could be a player from the 90’s that has featured for the club just a handful of times!

“In the email, you will receive a certificate confirming your adoption of the player, the players heritage number, and number of appearances made for the club.

“Once again, everyone at Wakefield Trinity would like to thank you all for your continued support.”
