Wakefield Trinity hold on to beat Salford Red Devils

In their first home game of the Betfred Super League season, Trinity took the lead with Scott Grix’s try on five minutes.

Liam Finn added the touchline conversion and kicked a penalty on 37 minutes to put Wakefield 8-0 up at the break.

Robert Lui reduced the arrears with a try seven minutes after the resumption and Niall Evalds then crossed on 54 minutes to level the game.

Crucially, O’Brien was unable to convert either attempt and when Jacob Miller touched-down, Finn adding the goal, Trinity regained the initiative to go 14-8 up with 16 minutes remaining.

The home side held out until the last minute when Kris Welham scored for Salford but O’Brien failed with the kick once again to leave Red Devils short.
