The players will undergo testing for two days before being given December 24 until 26 off, returning again on December 27.

There will be no Boxing Day friendly with Leeds Rhinos as Trinity look ahead to the start of the season on March 11.

“The players are coming in on the 21st to the 23rd for testing and field sessions. They will have off until the 27th and be in on the 28th, 30th and 31st,” confirmed head coach Chris Chester.

“With the season starting on March 11 we have actually lost two weeks. We have given the players seven weeks off because it has been mentally challenging and everybody needed a freshen’ up.

“We will get some quality training in and then come back in again on January 4.”

Chester will enjoy a rare Boxing Day at home with his family due to there being no friendlies this festive period.

He said: “I will spend Boxing Day with my Mum and Dad, and my family. It will be nice on Christmas Day to not be too worried about how much you are going to drink with getting up the next day for a game.

“Having said that, I have really enjoyed the Boxing Day friendlies. Fans really enjoy it as it just breaks the Christmas up for the fans. It will be nice to spend some time with the family.”
