Trinity are on a four-game losing streak in Betfred Super League, after beginning the campaign with a similar winning run, but Chester, pictured above, is convinced the next victory is within sight.

“Three of them have been away, to Wigan, Warrington and Hull and we had a close game against Castleford when we dropped the ball over the line three times,” Chester said of Wakefield’s recent results.

“In all four of them we’ve been in with a chance. The worst margin was 12 points at Wigan and in all four of them it has been 28 points, which is just over one converted try [per game].

“It is disappointing because the last two are games we could have won and we could be six or seven wins from eight. That’s how close it’s been.”

It was one try each when Trinity lost 11-6 to Castleford last week and it took a spectacular long-range drop goal from Marc Sneyd to separate the sides at Hull on Monday. Chester added: “There’s been no blow out scores, every game we’ve played has been really tight. We are just not quite getting that bit of luck you also need, but we are working hard and we’re still in a good position. We know a win is just around the corner.”

Rhinos were hammered 38-6 on their most recent competitive visit to Wakefield, in the Super-8s last September. A repeat of that result would get Trinity’s season back on track and Chester said: “In derby games you generally get that step up in intensity.

“Leeds are coming off a good win against Salford on Monday and even though we’ve been getting beaten we are still playing an attractive brand of rugby.

“It should make for a good encounter.”
