Wakefield Trinity: We need to get season back on track says Randell

AUSSIE HOOKER Tyler Randell is feeling battered and bruised after the Easter Weekend '“ but that is due to results rather than the effect of two games in five days.

“I definitely haven’t done that before, not since I was a kid at school,” the Wakefield Trinity ace said of Betfred Super League’s holiday double-header.

“It was something a bit different, but we lost both of them and you pay more attention to that than how you are feeling after it.

“That is the most disappointing thing, we came away with no points from two games.”

Trinity – who are at home to Leeds Rhinos on Sunday afternoon – emerged from Easter empty-handed despite sharing the tries in both their matches.

They lost to Castleford on goal kicks eight days ago and were on track for a point at Hull on Monday until Marc Sneyd landed a long-range drop goal in the final seconds.

“On Thursday it was always going to be a close game, with the conditions,” Randell said.

“That was one we could have definitely won.

“On Monday we were leading at half-time and we gave a good lead up.

“We came back and to lose it the way we did was disappointing. Over the last month, in three of the four games we’ve been leading at half-time and ended up losing.

“We have got to put that behind us and look forward to Sunday.

“It doesn’t get any easier, playing Leeds, but we need to get our season back on track.”

Rhinos have a habit of going behind early on and clawing their way back into games, but for Trinity the opposite tends to happen.

“We need to sort out our second halves,” Randell stressed.

“Half-time seems to be killing us at the moment.

“I am not sure what it is – it is definitely something we have addressed, we are just not doing it.

“Other teams come out out a lot faster than us in the second half and it takes us until they have got a couple of tries for us to wake up and get back into the game.”

Randell is four games into his comeback after suffering medial ligament damage to a knee in the fifth minute of the Boxing Day match against Rhinos.

“I am feeling a lot better than I expected to feel,” he said.

“I missed the first month of the season and I thought it would take me a few games to get my fitness up.

“But we are not winning and losing games puts a dampener on everything.

“I am just trying to get back into training and work hard to get us back rolling again.”

Randell is hoping Sunday’s game goes better for him than the Christmas fixture did. “I’d only just done my laces up and I was taking them off again,” he recalled.

“I won’t be thinking about that. It is a home game for us and we will need the crowd there to get us through. If we can put a good 80-minute performance together I am sure we can get a win.”
