Wakefield Wildcats coach Morrison eager for Exiles revenge over England

WAKEFIELD Wildcats coach Glenn Morrison is aiming to help the Exiles gain revenge when they take on England in the second International Origin match at Huddersfield’s Galpharm Stadium tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Australian is part of the Exiles coaching set-up for the two-match series and has been helping head coach Daniel Anderson prepare his side for their second meeting with Steve McNamara’s men this week.

England won the first match 18-10 in St Helens, meaning Exiles need to win tonight to retain their trophy.

“The last game we were a bit unsettled, we had some players pull out through injury and brought new players in the day before so it was unsettling,” said Morrison.

“We’re looking forward to it and we’re keen to level the scores. We’ve got the trophy from last year and we want to hold on to it so we need to win.”

Wildcats centre Vince Mellars had made Anderson’s initial 25-man squad for the match but missed out on the final cut.

Morrison also revealed to Express Sport that Dean Collis and Tim Smith were due to be included before Collis suffered a collarbone injury and Smith became a father and wanted to spend more time with his newborn baby.

Morrison, who played for the Exiles in their win over England in last year’s inaugural match, took up training on Monday morning, meaning he couldn’t do a spying mission on England when they trained at Wakefield’s Rapid Solicitors Stadium on Monday and Tuesday.

But he joked last week: “I’ll be with the Exiles but I might leave a few bear traps out on the pitch!”

“It’s a good pitch so I can understand why they want to train on it. It’s a shame we can’t take the pitch over to the new ground at Newmarket because it’s one of the best in Super League.”
