Wakefield Wildcats hooker Aiton would love Exiles call-up to face England

ON-SONG Wakefield Trinity Wildcats hooker Paul Aiton says he’d love the chance to play for the Exiles against England this summer.

The Papua New Guinea hooker has impressed in the red, white and blue this season after arriving at the club on a two-year deal from Cronulla Sharks in the close season.

And he’s hoping his form can catch the attention of Exiles head coach Daniel Anderson for the two-match origin series.

“Yeah I’d be very interested, I’d love a call-up actually,” he said.

“It’d be good to play, I’ve played for Papua New Guinea and it’d be good to play for another team. To play against all those good players, it’d be really good, I’d be interested.”

He continued: “My own personal goals are I want to just keep playing better every week, I want to be consistent and just want to stay in the side all year and get good game time, so I’ll just keep doing that and if that leads to other opportunities then that’s a bonus.”

Langtree Park, the home of St Helens, will host the first international game on Saturday, June 16 with the second game taking place on Wednesday, July 4.

The 26-year-old, who’s had international experience for his home country in the World Cup and Four Nations, has the added advantage of having Glenn Morrison, part of the Exiles coaching staff, watching over him at Wakefield.

And he thinks he’ll be in even better form once squad selections for the series take place.

“I feel as though I’m still improving,” he said.

“I feel as though I’ve got a bit more of my attack I can still bring to the team and I think that’ll come.

“You don’t want to push it too much and go crazy and pull all these things out the hat, but I feel as though I’ve got a bit more to give to the team and I think that’ll come as we get more comfortable with each other.”

Aiton has played in all seven of Wakefield’s Super League matches so far this campaign, proving a key figure for Richard Agar’s men.

He started his career with Penrith Panthers in 2006 before moving on to Cronulla, where he spent two seasons.

He’s set to play for Wakefield in Saturday’s game at London Broncos.
