Wakefield Wildcats ‘need a response’ in Agar’s first Castleford Tigers derby

HEAD coach Richard Agar wants to see a response from his Wakefield Trinity Wildcats players when they host local rivals Castleford Tigers on Friday evening.

The Cats go into the Stobart Super League XVII round 10 derby at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium having suffered a lowly 36-0 loss at London Broncos last Saturday - a match that induced some finger-pointing this week, according to Agar.

He said: “The aim is to turn it round this week. We had a fairly tough review [after London], which is probably the first this season.

“Most of the reviews have been very positive but this week we had to point some fingers. Hopefully we will see the right response.”

Friday’s game is Agar’s first experience of a Wakefield-Castleford clash and he recognises how significant it is for both sides.

“Obviously it’s at the top of most people’s agenda for both clubs,” he said.

“It’s fair to say we are all looking forward to it. I am sure the fans are looking forward to it just as much as we are.

“We need to show a pretty good response from last week. Performance-wise we have been aiming up in most games for long periods and it was a major disappointment that we didn’t at London.

“But we have got to put that behind us and there is no better game to do it than against Cas in a local derby.”

He added: “Both teams will be extremely hungry to get the two points. Castleford have had a difficult period to contend with and they have had some tough fixtures but they are getting better.”
