Wakefield Wildcats stars past and present recognised at Man of Steel awards

Wigan Warriors full-back Sam Tomkins took the big award, the Man of Steel, for 2012, beating competition from Normanton’s Ben Westwood and St Helens hooker James Roby.

Wildcats’ Danny Washbrook took home the Hit Man award, for most tackles in the Super League season, thanks to 991 tackles in 2012.

Former Wakefield players Ryan Hudson, who’ll return to the club as youth development officer in December, and Ben Jeffries won a lifetime achievement award alongside Danny Orr. All three players decided this season would be their last as players.

Wakefield head coach Richard Agar had been tipped for the Coach of the Year award after guiding Wildcats into the play-offs but Mick Potter, who stayed on at Bradford Bulls on a voluntary basis after the club entered administration, won the accolade.

Leeds full-back Zak Hardaker won Young Player of the Year, while Wigan Warriors were named as Club of the Year, Josh Charnley was Top Try Scorer, James Roby was Top Metre Maker and Jamie Peacock won the Mike Gregory State of Rugby League Award for lifetime achievement.
