Wakefield Wildcats: Wildcats set month-end deadline to confirm new home after Belle Vue is sold

A DECISION on where Wakefield Trinity will play home games next year is set to be made by the end of this month.

Chairman Michael Carter has raised the possiblity of a move away from Belle Vue, the club’s home since 1879.

A groundsharing arrangement with Kingstone Press Championship neighbours Dewsbury Rams is an option and Carter confirmed: “Discussions are still ongoing with Dewsbury.

“I am not ruling anything out or anything in at the moment, but the deadline we have put on ourselves is the end of this month.

“We want to get season tickets on sale, so we need to know where we are playing.”

Carter is concerned Belle Vue is no longer “fit for purpose” as a Super League venue and believes major improvements would need to be made, particularly to the North Stand terracing, if Trinity were to remain at the ground.

A change in ownership of the stadium has added to the uncertainty.

The Yorkshire Evening Post understands the ground has been sold by the Bank of Ireland to property company 88m Group.

The group, who have an address in Park Square, Leeds, have also purchased land adjoining the stadium, including the derelict Super Bowl site.
