Wakefield Wildcats/Castleford Tigers: ‘Million pound man’ Moore opts to make Wakefield loan move permanent

Hooker Scott Moore joined Wildcats on loan from Castleford Tigers in July – as part of a deal which saw Paul McShane move the other way – and has now signed a two-year contract.

Moore, 27, wrote himself a place in Wildcats’ history by scoring the final try in their 24-16 win over Bradford Bulls in the Million Pound Game two months ago. He began his career at St Helens, making his debut as a 16-year-old and has also had spells with Huddersfield Giants, Widnes Vikings and North Queensland Cowboys, as well as playing three times for England.

“I am looking forward to getting back with the rest of the squad and starting pre-season training,” Moore said. “I really enjoyed my time here while on loan last season, so I cannot wait what the next two years ahead.

“I’m excited for the challenge and what is in store here at Wakefield this season.”

A group of players including recruits Anthony England, Ben Shulver and Sean Morris began pre-season training yesterday. The rest of the squad will link up with coach Brian Smith next Monday to begin preparations for the new campaign.

Tigers also began pre-season training yesterday. Their home game against St Helens, scheduled for Friday, April 29, has been put back to Sunday, May 1 (3.30pm). Chief executive Steve Gill said: “We realise how important Sunday games are to our fans and when the opportunity came up to make the change we knew it was the right thing to do.”
