Wildcats fans look to 'go north' for Catalans Dragons game

WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats fans will notice something different about the Rapid Solicitors Stadium when Catalans Dragons visit in Super League on Sunday (kick-off 3.30pm).

The north stand's new roof will be completed in time for the visit of the French team, giving a new feel - and a new atmosphere - to Wakefield's famous home ground.

Construction started on the roof after Wakefield's last home game against Huddersfield Giants and work is set to be completed on schedule. It'll be similar in looks to the new covered section of the west stand, unveiled for the first time against the Giants, but will span the majority of the terracing behind the sticks.

The work has been done not only to give Wildcats supporters shelter in bad weather, but also to comply with plans laid out in the club's application for a Super League licence last season.

And the club is hoping supporters take advantage of the new facility when Catalans visit this weekend. Away supporters usually gather on the north terrace but it's hoped Wildcats fans will pack the stand and help create a new atmosphere for home matches.

A '#letsgonorth' campaign has set in full motion on Twitter this week, with Wakefield fans pledging to move from their usual spot at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium to the north stand.

Wakefield chairman Andrew Glover 'tweeted': "Really looking forward to this weekend. The atmosphere will be great, especially if 4000 people #LetsGoNorth (plus another 5000 elsewhere).

Wildcats will look to build on their impressive performance at Warrington Wolves last weekend but turn that into points against a Dragons side that have made a flying start to the season.
