ADMINISTRATORS for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have confirmed that the takeover bid tabled by Spirit of 1873 Ltd is a “deal done in principle” and the club should emerge from administration today, Thursday.

Peter O’Hara, from O’Hara & Co administrators, revealed that they were “nearly there” in concluding negotiations with Spirit of 1873 Ltd, led by local businessman Andrew Glover, and that following the resolution of a couple of legal technicalities, the deal should conclude later in the day.

O’Hara admitted that 30 members of the administration and office staff at the Wildcats had been made redundant yesterday and the decision to reinstate them or not would lie with the new owner.

O’Hara also rubbished claims that redundancies had been made within the club’s playing and coaching staff.

Head coach John Kear spoke to the Wakefield Express earlier today and was focused on rugby league, saying that he was “sitting here with the players preparing for the Catalans Dragons game on Saturday.”
