WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats’ new recruit Stuart Howarth insists that events off the pitch will not distract him from his aim of achieving a top-eight finish.
The back-row forward made the switch from Wigan Warriors during the close season and he is determined to make an impression at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
He said: “I moved to this club because it has such a good history. We have had a lot of negative press but we are not taking any notice of that.
“It’s not a distraction to us. We are training and working hard and if we keep doing that then everything else will fall into place.”
He added: “We are gradually building up and John [Kear] is having a look at us while we are such a young team.
“For me I just want to really cement my place here, make a good impression and show people what I can do as a player.
“We haven’t set targets yet but if everything falls into place and we execute [in games] the way we should do then we will have a really good chance of getting into the top eight.
“We put new structures in against Leeds and we put more in against Dewsbury and Huddersfield. It will probably take a few games to get it spot on but we will definitely make an impression on Super League this year.”
