WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats head coach John Kear has called for his players to show a marked improvement when they travel to Hull KR in round 20 of Super League XVI on Sunday.
Following the 52-18 home loss to Hull FC last weekend, a frustrated Kear said: “We gave Hull far too much ball through a lack of discipline and less than clever play.
“During the second half Hull had 10 consecutive sets and we conceded something like seven penalties.
“You can moan and groan about the referee but we gave the penalties away.
“We struggled facing that amount of possession in the heat. We have to be a lot cleverer than that and I am looking for the players to show a marked improvement in effort this weekend - that is our main focus.”
Hull KR have been inconsistent this season but they go into the game on the back of last week’s convincing 34-0 success at Harlequins.
Kear said: “[Rovers] have invested heavily in quality players but they have won only one more game than us and they will be disappointed with this season so far.
“However, their last win was very competent. They went back to basics and the game plan worked very effectively at Harlequins.”
Kear added: “They are chasing a place in the top eight and they have marked-out the next three games as ‘must-win’ but we must go out there and work for each other.”
