WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats head coach John Kear has hailed the club’s campaign in the Rugby League Nines competition as a “massive plus point”.
Wildcats won all three of their round four games at Castleford Tigers’ PROBIZ Coliseum last Tuesday to go top of the East Region League table and book their place in the finals night at Headingley Carnegie next Tuesday.
And the Wildcats’ combination of young and senior players have impressed Kear who said: “It’s a massive plus point for us.
“In nines games players have got to make one-on-one tackles and create things with the ball in hand.
“It is a great concept and we have embraced it. We have used a good mix of young and senior players and the finals night should be a good occasion.”
Wakefield will play Salford City Reds in the quarter-finals at 6:20pm on Tuesday. Wigan Warriors will take on Hull FC, Castleford Tigers face Cumbria and Leeds Rhinos play Warrington Wolves in the other quarter-final games.
