OUTGOING Wakefield Trinity Wildcats head coach John Kear is set to be named as the new coach at Co-Operative Championship side Batley Bulldogs this week.

Kear is reportedly ready to take over at the Bulldogs in order to replace Karl Harrison who has been confirmed as the new coach at Halifax.

Kear can take comfort in ending his reign at Wakefield with a 26-14 win over Bradford Bulls last Friday - a result that ensured Trinity avoided the Super League XVI wooden spoon.

Tries from Paul Johnson and Ryan Tongia, together with a conversion from Josh Veivers, put the hosts 10-0 up midway through the first half.

Bulls hauled themselves back to within two points with scores from Kyle Briggs and Shaun Ainscough but Veivers-improved tries either side of the break from Michael Korkidas and Tommy Lee put Kear’s men 22-8 up with an hour gone.

Shad Royston’s score, goaled by Patrick Ah Van, cut the deficit but Julien Rinaldi’s try in the final minute wrapped up the win for Trinity.
