WAKEFIELD Wildcats have continued shaping their Super League squad for next season by announcing that promising youngster Liam Kaye has penned a two-year contract to join the first team squad.
The 19-year-old moved to the Rapid Solicitors Stadium from Bradford Bulls last year and has been a stand-out performer for the club’s Academy side this season, prompting Wakefield to secure his full-time services.
Kaye said: “I’m really pleased to have signed a first team deal with the club, I’ve really enjoyed my time at Wakefield and I’m glad I have another two years here.
“I’m really looking forward to beginning training with the lads and I hope I can work hard and secure my place in the line up next year.”
The former Leeds Rhinos youngster becomes the third Wakefield player this year to progress to the first team squad for 2012 following deals for Chris Annakin and Lucas Walshaw.
And Wildcats chief executive James Elston said: “Liam is a fantastic young player which has been proven by the amount of interest he has created amongst other clubs.”
“He is a very talented half back that enjoys defending and it’s fantastic that we have captured his signature for the next two years. I am certain that there are some very exciting things to come from this young player.”
Kaye also shone for the Wildcats squad that featured in the Rugby League Nines tournament this summer and will join the first team squad in the close season.
