Wakefield Trinity Wildcats came close to causing one of the shocks of the Super League season so far against leaders Wigan Warriors on Sunday before eventually going down 36-23 at a sun-drenched Rapid Solicitors Stadium.

Richard Agar’s side, decimated by injuries with five key men sidelined, pushed a Warriors side on an eleven-match winning run all the way, leading until the final ten minutes when Wigan scored two tries and a penalty to make the final scoreline a flattering one in the visitors’ favour.
