Try-machine Watkins puts battling Wildcats to the sword

BATTLING Wakefield Trinity Wildcats put in plenty of effort but fell short in a proverbial game of two halves against Leeds Rhinos at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium on Sunday.

Greg Johnson’s try saw John Kear’s men take a slender 4-0 lead into the interval after dominating the Rhinos for long spells in the first half.

But the Rhinos hit back in emphatic style after the break to run out 28-6 winners and bag their first away win of the Super League campaign.

Wildcats, who went into the game on the back of a 20-6 victory at Hull FC, started brightly and dominated long spells of the first half.

They could only find the one try for their efforts though as the Leeds defence stood firm.

It was the Kallum Watkins show on the restart as the Leeds youngster crossed for four tries to lead the visitors to victory.

Danny Buderas also crossed the whitewash for Leeds, while Kevin Sinfield kicked four conversions.
