WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats’ excellent campaign in the Rugby League Nines competition came to an end at the semi-finals stage last night, Tuesday.
The Wildcats had topped their group to qualify for the finals night, played at Leeds Carnegie, and they continued their march into the semi-final with a 36-19 success over Salford City Reds.
The win set up a clash with Cumbria, who had enjoyed a surprise 18-16 win over Castleford Tigers in the quarter-finals.
The Cumbrians maintained their winning ways by beating Wakefield 20-8 in the final four.
Warrington Wolves were the eventual grand final winners, defeating Cumbria 18-10 in the showpiece.
The Rugby League Nines Plate was won by Leeds Rhinos, who beat Castleford 32-15 in the final.
