WAKEFIELD Wildcats have revealed that their new home kit for the final season at Belle Vue will be a heritage shirt inspired by the club’s early days at the famous old ground.
The Wildcats will play their final season at the Doncaster Road ground next season and will wear a shirt inspired by a jersey worn by Harper Oliver Hamshaw, a Wakefield player during the teams first years at Belle Vue in the 1880s.
The shirt will be navy blue with a single claret stripe, the original of which was worn during Wakefield’s first ‘golden age’, where they reached the final of five Yorkshire Challenge Cups and ran out winners three times.
Wildcats Chief Executive James Elston said: “Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Heritage is engrained in the fabric of our great city from our humble beginning at the Trinity Church now Trinity Medical Centre, to life at Eastmoor and Heath Common, But for the most part of our clubs life we have played from our home Belle Vue Stadium.
“It is right that we celebrate our heritage this year more than ever as we look forward to a new dawn and our final year at Belle Vue. What more fitting a way to do that than playing our last season in the exact same kit that we played our first.
“I am immensely proud of the work that has gone on with local historians and the Wakefield Museum to be able to find an original kit worn by Harper Oliver Hamshaw, which has allowed us to replicate it.
“The shirts are bound to be a collectors item and with demand high I urge all supporters to get their pre order in early.”
The shirt design will be revealed later this month and is expected to be released on Friday, December 10.
Members of the Super League club can pre-order their shirt now in an exclusive period until Saturday.
Gold members should take their season tickets in to the Wildcats Superstore to pre-order.
It will then be open to the general public to pre-order on a first come, first served basis.
