WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats rising star Sam Doherty has been selected for the England Academy side that will take on the Australian Institute of Sport on Sunday.

The young winger, who has been in the Wildcats youth system since the age of 16, will be hoping to get the call from England coach Dave Elliott when the two young sides clash in Leigh.

Doherty is one of four local players that have been named by Elliott in his 39 and 42-man England Academy and Youth 2011 squads for 2012.

Former Normanton Knights players Jordan Harper, Rob Mulhern and Ryan Hampshire are also in the England Academy squads for next year.

Harper and Mulhern now play at Leeds Rhinos while Hampshire is on the books at Wigan Warriors.
