WAKEFIELD Wildcats have turned Samy Masselot’s trial into a permanent stay after the French forward penned a one-year contract at the club. The 22-year-old arrived at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium midway through the season on a trial from French club Villenueve.

Wildcats hooker Julien Rinaldi, who hails from the same French town, recommended the youngster alongside Stan Robin.

And he’s impressed Wakefield enough to be rewarded with a one-year contract for 2012.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity. I have really settled in here at Wakefield and I am very much looking forward to next year,” he said.

“I hope that I can impress at that level and become a regular member of the team.”

Wildcats chief executive James Elston said: “It is fantastic that we have captured Samy’s signature for a further year. He is an extremely talented forward whose strength and drive will stand him in great stead in Super League.”

“I am eager to see Samy in action for the first team. I am certain that he will grasp this opportunity with both hands and we will see a lot more from this man next year.”

Masselot featured regularly for Wakefield in the Rugby League Nines competition and also featured for the first team.

His signature follows the news that Harlequins hooker Andy Ellis has signed a three-year deal with Wakefield from next season.

Wakefield will announce another new signing tomorrow.
