PINPOINT potting helped Matthew Samples win the Wakefield District Snooker League’s Individual Scratch competition.
The St Michaels A cue ace swept aside Crofton A’s Craig Longbottom 3-1 in the final to lift the trophy.
Some superb long potting gave Samples the initiative and saw him cruise into a 2-0 lead.
A comeback and deciding frame was on the cards after Longbottom pulled a game back but Samples cleared the colours in the final frame to claim victory.
Phil Morris (-18), of Royston Pockets B, won the Handicap Singles, beating Liam Predergast (-34) in a closely-fought match.
The match went to a decider and it was Morris who held his nerve to win.
In the Tuesday night section of the Wakefield Snooker League Royston Pockets followed up their 2011 Summer League success by comfortable taking the Winter League title.
Notable performances came from Rob Locke and Andy Macey, with the former finishing as overall Player of the Season with 16 wins from 23 matches.
Lionel Payne, of St Michaels B, took the high break award with a well-crafted 86 against Wrenthorpe A.
Outwood B finished second and Crigglestone came in third.
New Lodge B were crowned the champions of the Thursday section of the Wakefield League.
An 80 per cent win record from T Baker, winning 20 out of his 25 matches, helped Lodge won the league ahead of Havercroft, who finished second.
