Sharlston start BARLA National Cup defence with Upton tie

SHARLSTON Rovers will start the defence of their BARLA National Cup crown by hosting near neighbours Upton in the first round of this season’s competition.

Pennine League Rovers, who became the first side from Wakefield to win the top amateur national competition by defeating Fryston Warriors in last year’s final, will welcome the CSM Yorkshire League side to Weeland Road on Saturday, January 14.

Rovers are currently third in the Pennine League Premier Division and Upton are riding high in second in Yorkshire League Division 1, having ended Fryston Warriors’ unbeaten run at the weekend.

Westgate Wolves also enter the competition at the first round stage and will host Siddal.
