Sharlston Rovers completed a momentous trophy-packed season by winning the BARLA National Cup for the second time in Blackpool on Saturday.
The all-conquering Weeland Road side needed a dramatic late drop-goal from skipper Scott Glassell to beat Wibsey Warriors 31-30 in the final at Fylde RUFC and make it five trophies from as many competitions this season.
Centre Gareth Davies also shone with a four-try haul in a match which saw the lead swing both ways before Gordy Long’s Rovers eventually came out on top against their Pennine League Premier Division rivals.
The victory made amends for last year’s final defeat against Queens and was Sharlston’s second success in three years after beating Fryston Warriors in 2011.
The cup joined the Pennine Premier League, Yorkshire Cup, Pennine President’s Cup and Wakefield ARL Brian McDermott City Plasterers Cup in Sharlston’s bulging trophy cabinet this term to complete a season that will live long in the memory of all at Weeland Road.
