GERMANY’S world-famous Nurburgring will welcome Ossett-based Team WFR for the second round of the British GT Championship this weekend.

The circuit has played host to the cream of racing drivers past and present and a quartet of WFR drivers will get their chance of success behind the wheel of the team’s powerful Ginetta cars today, Friday, and tomorrow.

The team, based at Sandbeds Trading Estate, endured mixed fortunes in the opening round of the championship at Cheshire’s Oulton Park circuit last month.

The GT4 duo of Jody Fannin and Warren Hughes currently lead their class but Jody Firth and Riki Christo, who form the GT3 class team, will be looking for big improvements on the track.

WFR car team manager Duffy Sheardown said: “We have been working closely with the Ginetta factory and have been testing extensively with both drivers to obtain a better understanding of the car and workout what improvements need to be made and where.

“Whilst the car is not the finished article yet, we are confident of betting our result in the GT3 class from Oulton Park. Our GT4 programme remains on track and we’re looking for Jody Fannin and Warren Hughes to pick up where they left off in Round 1”.

Firth and Christo’s car has been the focus of WFR’s attention since the Oulton Park meeting.

The duo have been in attendance at several test days with the team at Silverstone and Oulton Park to address some issues which were uncovered in the First Round of races.
