Triathletes compete in Wakefield Summer Series

EIGHTEEN Wakefield triathletes completed the season opener of the 2011 Wakefield Summer Series.

The first of approximately 30 club events for the summer season, was a duathlon (2.5km run, 20km bike, 2.5km run) held on April 16 in and around the surrounds of Pugneys Country Waterpark.

The podium places went to Dave Cresswell (53 minutes: 24 seconds), Neil Ormston (55:25), and Andy Dovernor (57:41).

The first female home, and 13th overall, was Rachel Le Borgne (01:03:34).

The second event, a 40km cycling time-trial, was held on April 24.

This event saw the riders leave at one-minute intervals from Pugney’s Countrypark and tackle a hilly course along Denby Dale Road and the surrounding areas including Scissett, High Hoyland, Mexborough, and Haigh.

Among the men, the first three finishers were Guy Willard (1:10:04), Gareth Williams (1:11:33) and Chris Gorse (1:12:25).

The first three women finishers were Lorraine Gandy (1:28:35), Joy Wilton (1:29:16), and Elaine White (1:33:02).

If you would like to find out more about triathlons, duathlons, or open water swimming then you can attend an open day on Saturday, May 7, between 8.30am and 10.30am at Pugneys Country Waterpark, off Denby Dale Road, Wakefield. Club members will be available to answer questions about training and racing.
