Blagg, who studies in Florida, teamed-up with fellow City of Leeds diver Katherine Torrance and exceeded expectations by finishing second, behind Australians Esther Qin and Georgia Sheehan, thanks to a score of 276.90.

The 21-year-old told BBC Sport: “It’s kind of a bit surreal because we haven’t really trained together as I’m in Miami and Kat is in Leeds and we haven’t really been expecting anything so to come away with a silver medal is like ‘wow. We’re really happy’.

“We wanted to do well but we didn’t have the expectation so when you win a medal unexpectedly, it’s amazing.

“This is a great way to start the Games and it gives us some confidence going in to our individual events, so for us we are really happy.”

Malaysia’s Mun Yee Leong and Nur Dhabitah Sabri scooped bronze with 264.90 points.
