A TRIO of Wakefield rugby league teams will be involved in the inaugural Conference Challenge Cup.

Eastmoor Dragons, Normanton Knights and Stanley Rangers will all play in the first round of the newly-formed National Conference League (NCL) competition next month.

Eastmoor will visit Thatto Heath Crusaders, Normanton will host Milford Marlins and Stanley will make the trip to Rochdale Mayfield. The ties will take place over the weekend of May 12-13

NCL chairman Trevor Hunt said: “This is an exciting new initiative and opportunity for those top echelon clubs who have made the switch to summer, to not only enjoy the challenge of a knock out cup competition, but to show their skills and talents to a national TV audience.”

The final of the competition will take place on Sunday, September 30 at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium as part of the Co-operative Championship Finals day. All three games on the day will be screened live on Premier Sports (Sky channel 433).
