First Utility Super League leaders St Helens proved too strong for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats as James Webster’s men lost out 40-16.
Tommy Makinson gave Saints the lead early on and the hosts turned dominance into more points on 27 minutes when Josh Jones crossed for another try converted by Mark Percival.
Wakefield cut the deficit to six points at the break when Danny Washbrook crashed over and Jarrod Sammut added the extras.
Saints started the second period brightly and debutant Shannon McDonnell added to their try count, only for Trinity to hit back again when Richard Owen touched-down.
The hosts replied quickly through Sia Soliola’s score and McDonnell crossed for his second soon after.
Jones celebrated his second and although Lee Gilmour crossed for the visitors, Makinson added his second late on.
