A WAKEFIELD golf professional will tee-off in the biggest event of his career next week with the aim of booking a place in the 2013 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
Low Laithes Golf Club’s Adrian Ambler will travel to Turkey on Saturday to compete in the Titleist PGA Play-offs after claiming top spot in the North Region Order of Merit this year.
The 41-year-old, from Thornes, will compete against each of the PGA’s seven regional Order of Merit competitions in the year-ending competition and the prizes at stake are huge.
The top ten will automatically qualify for next year’s BMW PGA Championship and line-up against some of the sport’s biggest names, while the top three will secure qualification for the Great Britain and Ireland PGA Cup team to take on the United States.
“It’s going to be a big challenge for me,” said Ambler.
“I’m under no illusions as to how tough it’s going to be. To get the top ten and an automatic entry to Wentworth would be fantastic and I think it’s possible for me to achieve that if I play like I have been playing this year.”
Ambler, who will be joined by Hart Common golfer Steve Parry and Houghwood’s Barry Taylor from the North Region Order of Merit, has played the best golf of his career so far in 2012.
He won the Yorkshire PGA Merit title for the sixth time and won his first ranking event at the De Vere PGA North Region Championship at Blackpool’s Herons’ Reach.
The PGA Play-Offs will take place at the PGA Sultan Course at Antalya Golf Club from Monday, December 10 to Thursday, December 13.
