Pontefract Liquorice Festival will go online this year

Wakefield Council will be running a week-long online celebration of Pontefract’s liquorice heritage from from July 5 to July 11.

‘Pontefract Allsorts’ will replace this year’s Liquorice Festival.

Residents will still be able to enjoy a whole week of online family fun, which will include favourites Lucy Liquorice, renowned liquorice expert Tom Dixon, who was featured on BBC's Countryfile, and the Great British Bake Off’s Karen Wright, as well as activities delivered by Pontefract Civic Society.

There will be art and craft challenges, puzzles, talks, Lego challenges, recipes and lots more.

Many of the local business that have recently reopened will also be selling liquorice treats online to tempt tastebuds.

Coun Jacquie Speight, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “I’m really excited for this year’s Pontefract Allsorts as there’s lots of fun activities planned for all the family and I hope everyone will join us in celebrating Pontefract’s liquorice heritage as we do every year.”
