Local talents join literary big guns at city’s third Lit Fest

Some of the biggest poets and authors will grace the city to share their work at this year’s Wakefield Lit Fest.

And the festival of reading and writing will also feature up-and-coming local talent.

From Saturday, September 18, until Tuesday, September 30 more than 60 literary events and activities will take place across the district.

Festival organiser, Frances Smith, said: “We’re delighted that Lit Fest is really beginning to establish itself in the cultural life of Wakefield, with more events, headliners, venues and partners than ever this year.

Director Robert Powell added: “Around the star-light of our headline names, Wakefield Lit Fest continues to pursue a range of deep themes and strands including talent and reader development, place-based writing, a cross-artform approach, and young people and communities taking a lead.

“That’s what the festival is for - developing in people an ongoing love of words and stories, whatever form they may take.”

The full line-up of Lit Fest events is listed below. See today’s paper for an interview with Ossett’s Festival in a Day headliner, Roger McGough.
