Nom, nom, nom - tasty launch of new book club at Wakefield’s rhubarb festival

Avid cooks will have the chance to share tasty tips when a new book club is launched at the city’s annual food, drink and rhubarb festival next month.

Celebrity chef and festival compere Richard Fox will launch the Nom, Nom, Nom book club – run by Wakefield Council’s libraries service – in the festival marquee on February 22 at 2.15pm with demonstrations of recipes from his own book.

The club will meet on the first Saturday of each month from 2-3pm at the Create cafe, below Wakefield Library and Museum at Wakefield One, Burton Street, when members will be able to swap recipes and read the latest cook books.

Top chefs will be cooking culinary treats at the festival, which will take place in the city centre from Friday February 21 to Sunday February 23.

There will be demonstrations from celebrity chefs, a Yorkshire market and walks and tours of famous sites.

This year’s chefs include Simon Rimmer from Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, former Coronation Street star Sean Wilson, ITV children’s favourite Ben Ebbrell from Munchbox and Rachel Green, star of ITV Yorkshire’s Flying Cook and World on a Plate programmes.

Festival veteran Janet Oldroyd, who runs tours at her rhubarb farm in Carlton, near Rothwell, said: “The festival has grown from nothing over the years to become really popular, we always get visitors from all sorts of places for the weekend.

“People have been booking for tours since last year.”

The festival will also include local chefs Shaun Mounsey, Create Café in Wakefield, Heather Copley from Farmer Copley’s, Liam Duffy from Iris Restaurant, Stephanie Moon from Rudding Park and Ashley McCarthy from Ye Old Sun Inn.
