The third annual run will begin and end at Pontefract Park on Sunday, March 8, and is expected to draw hundreds of runners to the town.

A spokesperson for the Pontefract 10k said: “The Pontefract 10k is back for its third year in 2020.

“This year for the first time it will be organised by the team behind the Pontefract Half Marathon and we aim to build on the first two years of this great race to make it bigger and better.

The Pontefract 10k will return next week, promising a bigger and better experience for runners across the district.

“We are pleased to be keeping the Prince of Wales Hospice involved, they will be charity partners for the 10k and we hope to get some help in supporting this wonderful local charity.”

Entry to the race, which includes a medal, T-shirt and goody bag, costs £20, or £18 for affiliated runners.

Organisers are also seeking volunteers to help staff the route in exchange for a free place on a run at a later date.
