The Bank Street venue combines the character of a traditional pub with a renewed focus on live music, entertainment and good times.
Guests can expect great beer, food from The Pie Hole, four professional English pool tables, three premium darts boards and a packed programme of events.
At the heart of the refurbishment is The Backroom, a dedicated live music space designed to showcase grassroots talent, emerging artists, local cover bands and established acts.
The programme will also feature touring bands, DJs and comedy nights, creating a varied calendar of entertainment throughout the week.
The venue will also play an active role in supporting Wakefield’s next generation of musicians, working with local colleges to provide opportunities for students and emerging performers to gain live experience and develop their skills.
Inside, The Hop & Cobble retains the warmth and character of a ‘proper pub’, with wood fires, cosy corners, traditional finishes and music-inspired décor.
Upstairs, the new games area offers plenty of opportunities for friendly competition, while The Pie Hole will serve locally sourced Yorkshire pies.
The reopening also marks a return to the venue’s musical roots.
Originally opened as The Hop in 2008, it quickly became a fixture on Wakefield’s live music scene, hosting acts including Metronomy, Pulled Apart by Horses, Embrace and John Cooper Clarke, as well as comedians and other performers.
Now, nearly two decades on, The Hop & Cobble aims to build on that legacy while bringing a fresh pub experience to Bank Street.
Jamie Lawson, Founder of Ossett Brewery Pub Company, said: “When we first opened The Hop in 2008, the idea was to bring together great beer, a proper pub atmosphere and live music.
"The Backroom gives us the opportunity to take that original idea and bring it back to life in a way that feels right for the venue today.”
Whether it’s a pint by the fire, a game of pool, a Yorkshire pie or discovering your next favourite band, The Hop is back!
