Chris, the former Leeds and Sheffield United star, who is also known internationally as a TV presenter and football analyst, has given his backing to the guide.

Chris said: “I know first-hand the benefits sport can bring everyone, whether it’s going to the gym, enjoying a swim or having a kickabout in the park. That’s why it’s great to see sport and leisure facilities starting to get safely back up and running across Wakefield.

"The entire place is starting to wake up again with shops and bars coming back to life.

Coun Jack Hemingway, deputy leader of Wakefield Council, said: “We are delighted Chris is lending his support to promote the fact our district is doing everything it can to reopen safely.

"Step by step, we are helping businesses get back on their feet right and sport is a key part of the next phase. Health and activity are so important for the physical and mental wellbeing of residents, so this is a major milestone.

“However, we all need to play our part in doing this safely and following all the new rules in place – that way we can continue to move forward rather than taking steps back.”
