Mamma Mia, on Northgate, confirmed on Facebook that a member of the family had tested positive for the virus after presenting with mild symptoms earlier in the week.

As a precautionary measure, all family members, as well as staff who had been in close contact, immediately began self-isolating, and a deep clean was carried out.

And the Italian restaurant has now confirmed that they will remain closed over the weekend while staff and family members isolate, in an effort to "minimise the risk to the rest of our staff and ultimately our customers".

Staff apologised for any inconvenience caused to customers, and promised to be in touch with those who had bookings.

The restaurant will reopen on Tuesday, September 29.

The full Facebook post reads: "We would like to inform our customers that a member of our family has unfortunately received a positive test result for COVID-19 after presenting with mild symptoms earlier this week.

"As a precaution all family members self isolated immediately, as well as any employees who were in close contact with them. A deep clean of our restaurant and kitchen took place as soon as we recognised that a family member had symptoms, and we will be carrying out another deep clean today as an extra precaution.

"The majority of our family are now self isolating following the positive result, so as an additional precaution we have made the decision to close the restaurant from this evening. This minimises the risk to the rest of our staff and ultimately our customers, in case anyone else presents with symptoms.

"We will reopen on Tuesday 29th September.

"We are so sorry to have to let customers down by closing but as a family and a business we feel that this is the safest option for everyone. Anyone who had a reservation with us over the next few days will be contacted today to cancel or rearrange your booking.

"We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused and thank you all for your continued support and understanding! Stay safe and see you next week."
