This means that all stall holders will be able to trade, as long as they can do so safely, and not just those selling food and essential goods.

The government said social distancing guidelines must continue to observed at all times when people are outside their home and the council is urging residents and visitors to follow this advice and ensure people stay two metres away from anyone outside their household.

Coun Darren Byford, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for economic growth and regeneration, said: “We know that this has been a very difficult time for traders and that our markets are very important for many of our residents so, as we cautiously start to lift some restrictions, it is incredibly important that we do this safely and continue to follow the Government’s guidance.”
