Four charities have been voted by Wakefield Jack's shoppers to receive cash donations

Action for Children, AEDdonate, Batley Community Outreach Centre and Middleton Elderly Aid are set to receive a donation as a thank you for their help with the Covid-19 relief efforts.

Charities directly supporting the Wakefield community have been invited to apply to the Jack’s Supports Scheme to receive some well deserved funding. All four charities will receive £500 each to help fund their incredible organisation.

Denise Fotherby, General Manager at Batley Community Outreach Centre, said: “Due to Covid 19, the Batley Community Outreach Centre based at our church in Batley had to close. We applied for the Jack's Supports Scheme so we could continue to offer our services during the virus."

Samantha Ely, Chief Officer at Middleton Elderly Aid, said: “Middleton Elderly Aid is the main point of contact for the over 60s in Middleton.

"We have adapted our services during COVID-19 to assist our members to get through this pandemic. We have been cooking and delivering over 300 meals per week. We shop and pick up prescriptions for our members.

"We also have a telephone befriender who calls over 100 members per week for a chat.”

Michael Ward, Jack’s Wakefield store manager, said: “We launched Jack’s Supports to give something back to the local communities that have supported us since our launch. Each of the charities involved in the scheme do fantastic work in the local area, and we’re delighted that we are in a position to be able to offer our support.”

Jack’s supermarket, part of the Tesco family, launched its Jack’s Supports scheme to donate proceeds from the sale of carrier bags to local good causes voted for by its customers.

During the pandemic Jack’s have had to adapt their Support Scheme by removing voting units from all stores. To ensure charities did not miss out on this vital funding, Jack’s invited charities to apply for funding and chose four charities at random to receive the full grant.
