6. Toys R Us
Toys "R" Us in Wakefield closed in April 2018.It was among the last 75 in the country to close after admninistrators failed to lock in a buyer for the company, which included Babies R Us. More recently, it's been announced that a number of Toys R Us stores are reopening around the country. Photo: s
7. Wakefield Market Hall
The Market Hall closed its doors for good in November 2018. It was the end of a long process to close it since the council announced its intention to redevelop the site in 2014. It was announced in 2022 that it's set to be transformed into an exhibition centre and renamed Wakefield Exchange. Photo: s
8. Townsend's jewellers
The well-known and much loved family jewellers on Marygate closed down in October 2018 after 60 years of business. Changes to the high street and retirement were the reasons for closure. Photo: s
