New landlords at Wakefield city centre pub The Rainbow

The new landlords of a Wakefield city centre pub are set to oversee some big changes at the popular venue.

Daniel Pearson and Richard Marshall-White have just signed the lease at The Rainbow after spending a month learning the ropes.

Daniel said pub company Stonegate is planning a £25,000 refurbishment of the Lower Warrengate pub at the end of this month.

And the couple will be serving up home cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner from the end of the month.

They are also planning on letting the function room out free of charge for parties and other events.

Daniel and Richard are both newbies in the pub trade but say they are loving life behind the bar so far.

Daniel was previously a manager at Greggs at the White Rose in Leeds and Richard will jointly run the pub while continuing to work as a driving instructor.

Two Pride events and an 18th-birthday party during their first few weeks have kept them busy.

Daniel said: "I had never pulled a pint before I started here.

"It genuinely is the best thing I have ever done. We work for ourselves and we get to spend a lot of time together."

"Richard said: "There are some really nice regulars."

The couple want to host two regular DJS once a month and also introduce karaoke, bingo and pub quizzes.

Daniel said: "We have probably got one of the best beer gardens in Wakefield city centre. We have a live busker on a Sunday."
