But the area's local Labour councillors, alongside a neighbour of the premises, want to block the move because of fears around disturbance.

Sizzlers said in its application to Wakefield Council that noise will be kept to a minimum.

The matter will be decided by a public licensing hearing on February 9.

In a written submission to the council ahead of the hearing, a neighbour of the premises said: "The takeaway is joined onto my property, so the extended hours could impact on my sleep.

"I work full time and get up at 5.30am Monday to Friday."

She cited: "Noise from the equipment used to make the food and the telephone ringing, from customers/workers, the door opening and closing.

"Noise from the vehicles that arrive to collect takeaways, doors slamming, their radios, conversation etc.

"I also would also like it noted that the shop would close at 1am but the noise would continue as it must be cleaned down afterwards."

In her objection, Wakefield East councillor Olivia Rowley said: "This takeaway is next to a row of terraced houses, with on street parking and an old people's home.

"I feel that an extension until 1am will create unnecessary noise and disturbance to these immediate neighbours."

Sizzlers has been contacted for comment, but has not responded.

According to Companies House, the takeaway was registered as a new business last October.

In its application to the council, the premises' manager said noise pollution would be kept at a "minimal" level.

He added: "Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated on our premises, any signs of nuisance will be reported to the relevant authorities."
