17. The Addy
There are endless adventures to be had at Knottingley’s Old Quarry Adventure Playground, known locally as The Addy. With free adventure play sessions every weekday, special toddler sessions for £3 and even slots for children with additional needs, the park is sure to help pass the time this summer, and give everyone some great stories to tell.
Fancy a day at the beach, without the long trip? Hemsworth Waterpark, promises a stunning waterfront experience, sandy beaches and open water. There’s a Playworld adventure playground, with a tower slide, climbing frames and toddler sandpit area.
This park is located in the centre of Wakefield, and has something for everyone.
Take a stroll through the woodland, cycle through to the neighbouring Clarence and Holmfield parks, or try some stunts on the park’s ever-popular play area. For something a little calmer, pop around to the park’s Secret Gardens,to enjoy an ice-cream in the sun.
Children across the Wakefield district are being invited to take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. It is now open to children, aged between four and 11 years old, to read any six library books across the holidays to earn prizes, a certificate, and a special medal. The challenge runs throughout the summer holidays and children can sign up free at any district library where they can borrow books, attend events, and collect free incentives and rewards.
