The following children's centres will be closed to the public from today, Thursday, March 19.

Wakefield Council's Acting Chief Executive, Andrew Balchin, said: "We've had to make the very difficult decision to close children's centres to ensure we are doing everything possible to protect the health and safety of children and families across the district.

"We understand that this will have an impact on those that use the centres and we want to reassure any family who is currently receiving target support will be contacted directly so that we can continue to support you.

"We are also actively planning to expand our service offer to the most vulnerable groups including the reuse of these centres and our library facilities as community hubs, and will announce details of these over the coming days."

In response to the coronavirus outbreak, the current Government guidance for people to stay at home if they have a high temperature or a new, continuous cough, and to follow good hygiene practices including regular and thorough handwashing.

Mr Balchin said: "We are continuing to closely monitor and act on the latest advice from Government and will re-open the venues as soon as it is safe to do so."
