NHS England confirm 200th hospital coronavirus death in Wakefield

There have been 52 further confirmations of coronavirus deaths in Yorkshire hospitals, according to the latest figures.

Figures released by NHS England on Tuesday, May 5 record a total of 52 confirmed new deaths.

Of these, 10 occurred at hospitals run by the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust, the highest daily figure for any trust in Yorkshire.

There have now been 565 confirmed cases of the virus in the Wakefield district.

This data reflects deaths from the latest reporting period which is 5pm on Monday, May 4.

This brings the total number of deaths in hospitals in the region to 1,932.

NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related death in hospitals in England, often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

This is because of the time it takes for deaths to be confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, for post-mortem examinations to be processed, and for data from the tests to be validated.
